Moorhen up a tree!

Outside the Viewing Gallery of the Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre, we erected a custom built peanut feeder made from the top 5 foot of an old pine tree. The peanuts were put in slots made in the top with a wire mesh cage wrapped round the trunk. The stumps of the branches made perches for the avian diners. What we didn't expect is that the moorhens (who nest in the pools nearby) would get the hang of perching on top of the feeder and getting the peanuts out by stretching their necks down below the level of their legs.
